Best Core Entertainment Game Its stunning artwork and unique combination of city building, diplomacy and exploration push Valerian: City of Alpha beyond the limits of most mobile games. How does a small Dutch games company beat the international competition to make the official game of Luc Besson’s sci-fi movie Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets? The movie studio wanted something much more than just another movie game and that’s what we gave them. They loved our idea to build the game around the astonishingly intricate backstory created for the movie. Gamers get to explore that super cool Valerian universe for themselves, and discover the aliens and planets that will come to be featured in the movie, and build the City of Alpha. The detail within the game makes it endlessly entertaining and it is continually updated with new missions and new alien species and planets.

Best Art Direction The art is in a class of its own. It is beautiful, mind-blowing, and draws players into the Valerian universe to create a truly immersive experience. As the official mobile game for Luc Besson’s sci-fi movie Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, it is inspired by and comes directly from the film’s stunning visuals. It emulates the film’s warm colour palette and the tones create a bridge to the look and feel of the movie. The artwork goes way beyond what is seen in most mobile games. Many games have a flat grid; ours is more holographic so players can see inside the grid (no other game has that). We’re getting the maximum within the restrictions of mobile. The the City of Alpha and the the holo-grid are all 3D. Much of the artwork is original because of the logistics of developing the game and the film at the same time, yet it had to be in keeping with the look and feel of the movie. Fans of the movie will immediately recognise the universe within the game, and be thrilled to be able to explore more deeply.
