Best Serious Game With 1 in 4 children in the modern western world facing problems from obesity change needs to come fast. Healthcare costs are climbing at an alarming rate. We think we deserve an award for coming up with a unique and working approach that is fun, effective and affordable. By working together with a major brand such as Garfield and combining great game design with academic parties such as the World Health Organisation and various universities we created an appealing digital intervention that isn't regarded as an intervention by the target audience. This truly is a unique project, wholly self-funded without subsidies and nevertheless it's a huge success, both from an economic as from a social awareness perspective. This is what defines games as an innovation tool for society.

Best Co-Production By working together with a major brand such as Garfield and combining great game design with academic parties such as the World Health Organisation and various universities we created an appealing digital intervention that isn't regarded as an intervention by the target audience. Serious games are notoriously hard to commercially fund, develop, validate and then to bring to the market. Since our game is essentially a prevention tool, we sought cooperation with a local health insurance company and local health initiatives.
Together with Jim Davis we created 38 unique new cartoons directly related to healthy living and nutrition for children. We acquired the rights for the Garfield character directly from Jim Davis himself. We knew that the cartoon character would give us tremendous exposure, and that children would be more likely to accept information regarding food and nutrition from a fat cat that doesn't like to move around a lot.
