Best Student Game:
With Einar, we have tried something special: to create a game of AAA-quality with a group of students. We believe nothing similar has been attempted before in an educational setting. It is very unique and difficult to achieve this quality at university. This project was very ambitious overall and we managed to achieve the quality we set out and we are all very proud of the end result.
Notable for Art Direction: Our team consists out of some of the best artists at the university. This is because this project was aiming at the highest quality outcome possible, a game with art assets of AAA quality. The artists implemented all their knowledge into their work on the game, and it paid off well, because the visuals of our game Einar are marvelous. Furthermore, we used many advanced techniques such as Photogrammetry and MoCap animations and built our own custom tools. We achieved all of this in less then 30 weeks of production.
Notable for Technical Achievement: We used different complex techniques, from complicated AI for each enemy type to our own analytic software (Einarlytics) to track every play through from around the globe. The well designed combat system had to function very fluent, which was a big challenge. Nevertheless, when you play the game, the combat feels smooth and visceral due to the extremely modular combat system.
Notable for Music & Audio: We were blessed with the talented composer and sound effect designer that we had for the project. The composer delivered a soundtrack which was perfect and extremely fitting with the game. It really drags the player into the game. The sound effect designer had a real challenge to design and make the sound effects for our unique enemies in the game, but in the end, the game feels and sounds alive.
